Dr. Tamer Yalcinkaya Offers Hope
With Transabdominal Cerclage Procedure
One specialized procedure Dr. Tamer Yalcinkaya (Dr. Y) offers is a transabdominal cerclage (TAC). This technique involves placement of a cervical cerclage (a tied loop) which helps reinforce the cervix in women who have had multiple pregnancy losses because of a thin or delicate cervix.
The transabdominal approach performed by Dr. Y allows for the cerclage to be placed in an optimal location for a more secure stitch and can be used in subsequent pregnancies. Placement of a transabdominal cerclage is an excellent option for for women with cervical insufficiency , which can cause the loss of the preganacy. Dr. Y prefers to perform the procedure early in the patient’s pregnancy.
Success rates of the transabdominal cerclage is high. Abbyloopers, a TAC support group Website, followed over 300 traditionally placed TAC pregnancies of members and showed a success rate of over 90%.
“The technique we use is minimally invasive and usually on an out-patient basis,” said Dr. Y. “We have helped many women who have suffered though multiple miscarriages. It’s a great option for a safe, normal pregnancy”
