Adopting a Donor Embryo

When couples go through in vitro fertilization (IVF), sometimes there are fertilized eggs (embryos) that remain and are frozen for later use. When couples decide that their family is complete but still have embryos remaining, there are a few options. One exciting option is to donate the embryos to a couple or individual who is unable to conceive.

Using donor embryos is a good cost-conscious way to grow your family. Embryo adoption provides you with an opportunity to have children and experience pregnancy and the birth of a child. Embryos available for adoption through our CFI Embryo Adoption program were donated to us from former patients who completed their families through IVF at CFI.  If you choose this option to grow your family, we will work with you to match you with an embryo/embryos that suit your specific needs.

In short, embryo adoption is a form of adoption that allows the adoptive mother to carry her genetically unrelated child and experience pregnancy and delivery. Rather than adopting an infant that is already born, adoptive parents begin the process nine months earlier by adopting a frozen embryo donated by a couple who has been through in vitro fertilization. This emerging form of adoption is another option for prospective parents to consider.
